How to read each dataset
Datasets mean different things by "current". A contract transaction is an event with a date. The SAM Entity Registry is a snapshot SAM republishes monthly. A procurement forecast describes a buy that has not happened yet. Each dataset below says which date it is organized by and what its "current as of" date measures.
- Current as of: the newest date in our copy of the dataset. Each dataset says what that date measures: the latest event we hold, or the day we last synced.
- Records: the exact number of records we hold at the latest snapshot.
- Organized by: the date the records are filed under and filtered on.
- Coverage: how far back the dataset we hold reaches. How far back each plan can search is on Pricing.
Records pass through as the source published them, source errors included, and the notes below say where that matters. How we treat the public record is on About.

Contract Opportunities
SAM.gov · Updated daily · Organized by posted date
A record is one contract notice as SAM.gov publishes it, from sources sought to award notices, with the description text, the points of contact and links to its attachment files. Its "current as of" date is the most recent day we added or updated a notice.
Award notices stay on file for years after the award, so the dataset also holds older notices by design: that is retention, not staleness. SAM gives every amendment its own notice ID, so one solicitation can appear as several records; its solicitation number ties them together.
Federal Contracts
FPDS, published through USAspending · Updated daily · Organized by action date
A record is one prime contract transaction: a base award or modification to a definitive contract, purchase or delivery order, or BPA call. Its "current as of" date is the latest action date we hold.
A contract with modifications appears as several records, one per transaction. Contracting Offices, NAICS Markets and Spending are recomputed after each refresh of this dataset.
Defense data arrives late by design: the Department of Defense and the US Army Corps of Engineers withhold their contract actions from public release for 90 days, so the most recent quarter of defense contracting fills in over the following months. Civilian agencies usually report within a few business days. When an award actually goes public is covered in our federal contract data freshness guide.
Contract Vehicles
FPDS, published through USAspending · Updated daily · Organized by action date
A record is one vehicle transaction: the base award of an IDIQ, GWAC, Federal Supply Schedule contract, BPA or BOA, or one of its modifications. Search returns one row per vehicle. Its "current as of" date is the latest action date we hold.
Vehicles are not limited to the window of Federal Contracts: a GWAC awarded years ago is still the vehicle you must hold today, so the full history is kept. Records counts transactions, so it is larger than the number of vehicles. Vehicles are kept apart from contract transactions, so a vehicle ceiling never inflates a spending total.
Subawards
FFATA subaward reports, published through USAspending · Updated daily · Organized by subaward action date
A record is one subaward report: a prime contractor's filing of a payment to a subcontractor under a federal contract. Its "current as of" date is the latest subaward action date we hold.
Primes report first-tier subawards of $40,000 or more, often weeks after the work, so the most recent weeks are always sparse and fill in over time: that is reporting lag upstream, not a sync delay. Subawards under grants are not included.
SAM Entity Registry
SAM.gov · Monthly extract · Organized by SAM extract date
A record is one SAM.gov registration, keyed by UEI, as it appears in SAM's public entity extract. Its "current as of" date is the date of the SAM extract we hold.
SAM publishes the public extract monthly, so "current as of" follows SAM's latest extract rather than a daily pull. Firms that received a UEI but never completed a registration are not in the extract. Business types here are self-reported to SAM; SBA's own determination is in SBA Small Business Profiles, below.
Exclusions

A record is one entry on SAM.gov's current exclusion list: a firm, individual, vessel or special entity designation barred from federal awards. Its "current as of" date is the listing date of the newest exclusion we hold.
Replaced in full from SAM's current list on every refresh, so it is current state with no history: an exclusion SAM removes drops off here too. One UEI can hold several records. Many records carry no UEI, most of them individuals, so a UEI check alone is not a complete screen: search by name as well.
Wage Determinations
SAM.gov (Davis-Bacon, Service Contract Act, collective bargaining agreements) · Updated daily · Organized by modified date
A record is one wage determination number: Davis-Bacon (construction), Service Contract Act (services) or a collective bargaining agreement, updated in place when SAM revises it. Its "current as of" date is the latest revision date we hold.
Retired determinations stay on file, so 10,186 of 90,677 records are in force today. Filter to active ones for those that govern a bid now.
Procurement Forecasts
GSA, DHS and HHS forecast systems · Updated daily · Organized by estimated solicitation date
A record is one planned procurement as an agency published it, before any solicitation. Its "current as of" date is our last forecast sync.
Three agency systems feed this dataset: GSA's Forecast of Contracting Opportunities, DHS's Acquisition Planning Forecast System and HHS's SBCX. Agencies that do not publish through these three systems, including the Department of Defense, are not included. Forecasts are agency estimates, not commitments, so dates and values move as plans firm up. Search leaves out entries already awarded, cancelled or closed unless you ask for them. Some rows carry an estimated award year the agency filed incorrectly; those pass through as published.
Bid Protests
GAO · Updated daily · Organized by decision date
A record is one GAO bid protest docket (a B-number). One case can span several dockets. Its "current as of" date is the day we last fetched GAO's dockets.
Protests decided at GAO and protests still pending: 218 are pending today, and for those the date that matters is the date GAO must decide by. An outcome of Dismissed often means the agency took corrective action, not that the protest failed: for fiscal year 2025, GAO reported a sustain rate of 14% and an effectiveness rate of 52%. Protests at the Court of Federal Claims, at SBA, or filed directly with an agency are separate proceedings and are not included.
GSA Schedule Labor Rates

A record is one awarded ceiling rate: a labor category on a GSA Schedule contract, with its education and experience requirements. Its "current as of" date is the day we last reloaded GSA's rates.
Reloaded in full from GSA CALC on every refresh, so it is current state with no history. A ceiling rate is the most a vendor may charge under its schedule contract, not what a task order paid. Labor category names are free text, so match on them loosely.
Federal Hierarchy

A record is one federal department or agency, with its parent. Its "current as of" date is the day of our last full refresh.
The organization tree is small and stable. It is reference data for resolving an agency name or code to one organization.
What we build on it

SBA Small Business Profiles
SBA Small Business Search (formerly DSBS) · Updated monthly · Organized by last synced
A record is one SBA small-business profile, keyed by UEI: the NAICS codes SBA counts the firm as small for, and its SBA certifications with entry and exit dates. Its "current as of" date is the day we last loaded SBA's data.
Refreshed monthly from SBA's search; profiles hold their latest state, with no revision history. Of 615,266 profiles, 600,064 carry NAICS codes SBA counts the firm as small for and 79,911 hold at least one dated SBA certification. Profiles cover small businesses only, so large firms are absent.
Contracting Officer Contacts
Federal contract notices on SAM.gov · Updated daily · Organized by last seen
A record is one contracting officer named on federal contract notices, one record per email address. Its "current as of" date is the most recent day an officer appeared on a notice.
Each record's last-seen date is the last time that officer appeared on a notice, so it shows how recently the contact was confirmed. A small number of records are shared role inboxes a notice listed instead of a named person. The point of contact printed on each notice also comes with the notice itself, under Contract Opportunities.
Attachment Search
SAM.gov notice attachments · Updated daily · Organized by last updated
A record is one distinct document attached to a SAM.gov notice, with its extracted text. A document on many notices is stored once. Its "current as of" date is the last time we queued or processed an attachment.
SAM.gov's API returns attachment links but not their contents. This dataset is the text: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and RTF files, documents recovered from inside archives, and scanned pages read with OCR (47,205 documents). Attachments SAM lists only as links to other websites are not fetched. Attachment Search queries this text; the notice record carries the links to its attachment files.
